Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Why should I purchase Travel Insurance sooner rather than later?
Once you pay your non-refundable trip costs, you should purchase a Redpoint Travel Protection program. If you are within 14 days of your initial trip deposit date, you will make yourself eligible for the highest level of coverage, including maintaining eligibility for the pre-existing condition waiver and access to all 21 unforeseen events for trip cancellation and interruption.
Even if you past the 14 days from your initial deposit, the Redpoint Travel Protection programs are designed to protect against unforeseen events. Any event that occurs before your program purchase would not be covered by your policy. Travel insurance cost is also based on the traveler’s age at time of purchase. By purchasing now, you will secure the most extensive level of trip cost protection for you and your family at the lowest price.
Is travel insurance* a waste of money?
Not at all. A Redpoint travel protection program can cover you for unexpected costs incurred before or during your trip so you’re not stuck with those expenses. A travel protection program from Redpoint helps to protect your trip investment with coverages like trip cancellation and interruption, medical expense, lost or delayed baggage and more*.
Redpoint’s Ripcord and Cavalry programs also include industry leading medical evacuation programs which can bring you home to the hospital of your choice.
What do I need to know about pre-existing medical conditions and the coverage through Redpoint Travel Protection*?
Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusions would likely be applicable to a condition of a traveler, traveling companion or family member who was first diagnosed, had a change in diagnosis or required a change in medication during the 90 day look back period immediately preceding and including the effective date of coverage. Some plans include a Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver when purchasing the plan within a specified time frame immediately following initial trip payment.*
If I use frequent flyer miles to purchase a ticket, do I include the regular cost of the ticket as part of my trip cost?
Please be careful when using frequent flyer miles to calculate your trip cost. Travel insurance* typically covers the cash value of non-refundable travel expenses. In other words, money you can’t get back from your airline or other travel provider. Frequent flyer miles are not covered as it’s difficult to determine their cash value.
What else is offered with the purchase of a Redpoint Travel Protection plan?
Redpoint programs include access to our Travel Services team. This team includes medical and security experts to assist with medical consultations and referrals, medical evacuation, emergency cash transfers, pre-trip consultation services, and emergency messaging.
What product should I choose if I only want medical expense coverage*?
Redpoint does not provide a program limiting coverage to medical expense only.
Can I purchase travel insurance* coverage on an annual basis?
No, we do not offer travel insurance* policies on an annual basis. We do provide annual evacuation services under our Ripcord and Cavalry membership programs.
What program should I choose if I only want trip cancellation coverage*?
We do not offer a product that provides only trip cancellation coverage. For budget conscious travelers, we suggest reviewing our Harbor travel protection program.
Where can I find a copy of the travel insurance policy*?
A copy of the travel insurance* policy document can be found on the purchase page of each Redpoint program before you purchase. Policy documents are state specific.
What is covered in terms of trip cancellation or interruption*?
The list of unforeseen events for trip cancellation and interruption coverages can be found in Section IV Coverages of the travel insurance policy. Details regarding the optional “Cancel For Any Reason” upgrade can be found at the end of this section. General limitations and exclusions can be found at the end of the policy document.*
What is “Cancel For Any Reason*”?
Cancel For Any Reason, or “CFAR”, coverage allows travelers to cancel for reasons not listed as an Unforeseen reason or otherwise excluded. General limitations and exclusions found at the back of the policy are still applicable. Details regarding CFAR coverage can be found at the end of Section IV Coverages of the travel insurance policy document. Please note that “CFAR” is an early purchase benefit and must be purchased within a specified time frame immediately following initial trip payment.*
Will Redpoint provide evacuation services if I contract COVID-19 while travelling?
Although limitation 1.4.4 within the Ripcord and Cavalry Member Services Agreement may apply, we encourage travelers to contact our Travel Services team at the first sign they are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19. Our team will coordinate with you to provide all services described by the Member Services Agreement, however, any assistance we provide will be subject to government regulations, quarantine mandates, or other restrictions specific to COVID-19. A medical transportation could only be performed once all applicable quarantine mandates are met.
Will the cost to purchase travel insurance* get cheaper as I get closer to my trip?
No, the length between the purchase date of your policy and the start date of your trip does not affect the cost to purchase coverage.
What do I need to have to purchase a plan online?
Before purchasing, please have the following information handy:

Insurance can be purchased up to 24 hours prior to your trip departure date.
