Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

General FAQs

Why should I purchase Travel Insurance sooner rather than later?

Once you pay your non-refundable trip costs, you should purchase a Redpoint Travel Protection program. If you are within the early purchase window of your initial trip deposit date, you will make yourself eligible for the highest level of coverage, including maintaining eligibility for the pre-existing condition waiver and access to all covered reasons for trip cancellation and interruption.

Even if you past the early purchase window, the Redpoint Travel Protection programs are designed to protect against unforeseen events. Any event that occurs before your program purchase would not be covered by your policy. Travel insurance cost is also based on the traveler’s age at time of purchase. By purchasing now, you will secure the most extensive level of trip cost protection for you and your family at the lowest price.

Is travel insurance* a waste of money?

No, not at all. It provides valuable financial protection and peace of mind in case of trip cancellations & interruptions, medical emergencies, lost luggage, and other unforeseen circumstances. Investing in travel insurance ensures that you are covered and prepared for unexpected events during your travels.

What do I need to know about pre-existing medical conditions and the coverage through Redpoint Travel Protection*?

Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusions would likely be applicable to a condition of a traveler, traveling companion or family member who was first diagnosed, had a change in diagnosis or required a change in medication during the 90 day look back period immediately preceding and including the effective date of coverage. Some plans include a Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver when purchasing the plan within a specified time frame immediately following initial trip payment.*

If I use frequent flyer miles to purchase a ticket, do I include the regular cost of the ticket as part of my trip cost?

Please be careful when using frequent flyer miles to calculate your trip cost. Travel insurance* typically covers the cash value of non-refundable travel expenses. In other words, money you can’t get back from your airline or other travel provider. Frequent flyer miles are not covered as it’s difficult to determine their cash value.

Please note that “CFAR” is an early purchase benefit and must be purchased within a specified time frame immediately following initial trip payment.

Will the cost to purchase travel insurance* get cheaper as I get closer to my trip?

No, the length between the purchase date of your policy and the start date of your trip does not affect the cost to purchase coverage.

Are pandemics covered?
